Hi all,
It was indeed quite a pleasant surprise to see that so many people responded
to my earlier post regarding age,now that i know more about the people
writing in,i feel a more personal involvement with the list.It is
interesting to see that most of you bought your MGs for nostalgic reasons,it
was also revealing to see that some of you might collect stamps and even own
more than one old car.
The first MG i can recall was the picture of my father in his TC in the
fifties,it replaced a B.S.A Gold Star, on which he broke both his legs in a
crash,he had the MG till he married my mother, and that was his last two
seater. As a child I could recognise an MG even before i knew of a company
called Ferrari!!,till the early eighties one could see an occasional MG on
road here in Delhi, and i decided at that time that i will own one
someday, but most MGs had disappeared by the time i learned to drive,in
1989/90 at the age of 17,my father gave me his Karmann-Ghia which i fixed
and used as my daily driver for a few years,in 1992 at age 19 i fixed my
great grandfather's 1930 Studebaker tourer, which i still drive sometimes on
weekends but since we owned both these cars from new,and they were always in
covered storage, they were not very difficult to recommision,I bought my
first old car in 1994,a 1931 Chrysler CM6 tourer similar to the
Studebaker,it was running when i bought it so i restored it cosmetically, but
i sold it in 1996 because two large american cars need a LOT of space, and
besides,i preferred the 4 litre Studebaker to the 3/12 litre Chrysler
engine,then i came across a dilapidated 1927 Austin 12/4 roadster,i acquired
this car because my father had owned it for a while in the sixties, finally
in December of 1999 i found the MG i always wanted,it too is a basket
case, but now im an MG owner at last, but when i get to drive it, only time
will tell.
