TC on TV

Post by Charles Hill » Tue Feb 08, 2000 10:00 pm

Did any of the american listers catch the TC on the show The Relic Hunter on Sunday night? If you have never seen the show, I won't bother to explain - but anyway, this episode took place in Ireland where they were looking for the crown of the last King of Ireland. I don't know that much about Irish history so I can't comment on the story line. The main item of interest to this list is that the local Irishman the show's stars were helping was shown in several scenes tinkering on his tattered TC. From what I could see, it was an authentic TC - the hood/bonnet was off and I could see the TC air cleaner on top of the engine. Also looked like some pretty good rust spot on the front fenders/wings. Wonder if this was actually shot in Ireland or if it was somewhere in California. My guess is that it was in Ireland. I'll have to see if this episode is repeated and tape it.

KCLS TV (Orange County California) broadcast a program on the history of
Porsche today.

About ten minutes into the program there was a photo of a Porsche beside a
TC that bore the license plate "TC 7423"

Checking the roster, that car belongs to T-ABC member Bob Izard
(theizards@cox.net) Scottsdale, Arizona, USA.

Nice looking car Bob !

The TV program can be purchased on the website _www.greatcarstv.com_

A TC is in the 1951 TV series Amos N Andy. The show is on youtube
titled "The Winslow Woman". The TC shot is 14:30 minutes into the 25
minute episode. Almost all the episodes are on youtube.

Andy is played by Spencer Williams. Look him up on Wikipedia:
'Spencer Williams (actor). Sargent in Patton's Mexican campaign. Sent
to Europe in 1917 as part of army intelligence unit. Wrote scripts,
made movies, built his own movie sound equipment in 1930's.

The series ran for three years, 83 episodes. I read an article years
ago that after cancellation the cast tried to continue the show as a
stage show but the studio shut them down for copyright infringement.

I have a set of 168 episodes of "Highway Patrol" featuring Broderick
Crawford. Series shot between Los Angeles and Ventura 1955 to 1959.
Nice to see California when those areas were still rural as I
remember them. So far, saw the butt-end of a TR-3, front end of a TD
and a TF parked on a street. A young Leonard Nemoy as a thug in two
episodes so far.

Yesterday evening, 12-28 on the Doctor Blake Mysteries series (PBS),
episode "The Silence", there was a TC in the school parking lot. The
murder victim's home had a photo of a TC (same?) on the wall.

Great TV series from Australia along with the 1920's era "Miss
Fisher's Mysteries" series. Miss Fisher drives a Hispano Suiza. Of
course, we are a year behind Australian viewers.

Hi All,
I called into the Kings Head pub in Askrigg, Upper Wensleydale recently. The TV series All Creatures Great and Small was filmed there around 1970. The TC (I think) featured and the photo attached is on the pub wall.

Just curious to know if it s still about.

Attachments :hi Jeff - at the time, the TC was owned by Alistair Naylor: he once told me that somebody (maybe Christopher Timothy) put the car into a ditch, whereapon the film crew literally picked it up and returned it to the road! Alistair winced at the sight of it being picked up by the wings, but it survived...
cheers

Well, there s a coincidence. I am currently reading a book called The Real James Herriott which is the biography of Alf Wight, who was the author of the (loosely autobigraphical) All Creatures Great and Small books which he wrote under the nom de plume James Herriott.

This is written by his son, also a vet in the same practice on which the stories in the books are based. So far, though, all references to vehicles is very sketchy and certainly no MG is mentioned.

TC on TV

Post by Michael L. Stokes » Mon Apr 15, 2019 12:56 pm

Speaking of TC's on TV, my wife and I have been watching the TV Series "The Durrells in Corfu". The Durrells are a dysfunctional family from England (Bournemouth actually) cast in the 1930's time frame that move to the Greek island of Corfu. So should be a prewar TA or TB but not sure which model it actually is.

Interestingly, during one episode the owner and his girlfriend (Keeley Hawes) have lunch on a lovely hill top overlooking the Corfu coast. When they get in the car to return back, the car wont start. I thinking overheating but just a guess.
I wonder if anyone knows this car or maybe it's owners?

Hi Tweed, I had 2 front axles and a TA chassis straightened a while back. Several people recommended the guy below to do the work and I can confirm that he is very good at reasonable prices - ex-Naylor chassis man I believe. I delivered and collected and all done in about a week.

Good Luck,

There is a wonderful programme on Channel 5 here in the UK at the moment .... 'The Yorkshire Vet'. It's a fly-on-the-wall series following the work of the Skeldale Veterinary Centre in Thirsk North Yorkshire. The centre is run by Peter Wright who was apprentice to Alf Wight .. aka James Herriot. There are no 'holds barred' as it were, and Peter along with his partner at the practice, Julian Norton, show what it's like to be a vet. In the latest series, Julian has left the Skeldale premises and joined a smaller practice in Boroughbridge ... still in North Yorks, but a few miles from the county town of York. There are reports that he left the Skeldale practice in protest of it becoming absorbed into a large corporate concern with around 200 practices on it's books. Hats off to him for having the courage of his convictions, shame that cannot be said for a certain woman that's tearing democracy to shreds!
Now the TC content. Yesterday our local MG group had arranged for a guided visit to P&A Woods .. a name well known and respected by owners of Rolls Royce and Bentley marques. After the tour we scurried off for a spot of lunch at a nearby pub recommended by the receptionist. Very nice it was too! (the lunch wasn't bad either!)
Unfortunately on the drive home, TC 0632 had a coming together with a Fiat 500 driven by a young lady who did not see the line of MG's and other makes coming from her left. Poor girl was distraught and just kept saying 'I didn't see you'. Thankfully no 'human' body was hurt but the same cannot be said for the bodies of the Fiat and the TC!
On the face of it, it looked like nothing more than a crumpled offside front wing, a 'fender bender', and still drivable .. but the 20 odd mile journey home was more than enough to establish there was damage to the steering geometry. I haven't been underneath for a proper look but poking my phone under the front has shown a bent and slightly twisted axle! Little wonder the ride home was 'interesting' with one wheel having positive and the other negative camber, but both toeing out! We'll see what Brown & Gammons make of it, but I have a feeling we might be doing the NC500 in Liz's 'TF.
Tweed TC 0632 .... a bit bent out of shape. Cambridge UK
