Moss Motors
Moss Motors Hi Folks - I'm surprised nobody else has said anything, but there is a rumour that Moss have had the Receivers called in, gone belly-up, or whatever local expression you use. Don't know if this is just the U.K. or Stateside as well. Is the truth out there?

Re: Moss Motors
When I was in the UK i December I heard the same thing I.e That the UK
operation was in trouble. Also that Moss US were no longer involved. It
was rumored that a new owner was in the pipe line to save the UK
operation and that a press release would be issued in the NewYear.
As I don't purchase any thing from Moss UK it was not important to me
until I read the Email from Mr T re this matter.
I have noticed that Moss UK no longer have advertisements in the UK car
publications.
I'm sure our UK members will know more about this than either myself or
other US owners. However, as I am back in the UK at the end of the month
I will ask around just out of interest.

Re: Moss Motors
Yes, its true, Moss UK is trading whilst under administration. The
company creditors called in an administrator on Monday 4th Jan who is
looking for a buyer for all of Moss UK, or will split it up and sell in
parts. The business is still trading.
Moss UK was the subject of a management buy-out and is not connected to
Moss in the USA. They had a major fire last year and subsiquently moved
into nice new (expensive??) buildings.
Anybody got a deep pocket out there?

All I can say is THANK God for Al Moss and Moss Motors else we'd all be
driving Miata's now and all the T types would be in the scrap yard....all this
harping and bitching is making me sick....and doesn't help anyone.

Re: Moss Motors
Terry,
You're right were it not for Al Moss we'd all be in the toilet. BUT
Moss Corporation is not Al Moss any more and if we don't "bitch" then
Moss just isn't going to get it and the same sub-standard stuff is
going to keep on happening. So I disagree, it does help someone.
Ultimately it helps the customer..... The worst thing you can have in
business is a brassed off customer who says nothing to you, but lots
to everyone else.

Re: FW: Moss Motors
I think we had this thread before. I have been in this hobby 35 years and
have used Moss, Abingdon, and a host of independents. They are all important
to keep the cars running. While I realize that we owe a lot to our
independents, and they are doing a great job, if not a better job on
quality, believe me, you don't want Moss to stop being a major supplier of T
parts. Yes they are a big company, but they have been around before our cars
were collectable, and without them, half our cars would not be on the road.
In 1986 when ran our cars Ocean to Ocean to Ocean, I broke a half axel at
the start line in front of Moss's New Jersey warehouse. A new half axel and
hub was installed in an hour and Moss would not charge me for the parts or
help. They then followed the 50 cars on that run in a station wagon pulling
a trailer. The wagon was full of parts, which were dispensed every day to
fix the cars (which broke everyday) No one was ever charged for the service
or parts. The young kid who drove the wagon across country and back is now
running Moss, and I can tell you he is an enthusiast.
Without taking anything away from the small suppliers, we never know where
they will be ten years from now. Hopefully they will be still doing their
thing, but never never burn bridges behind you. We need Moss, and I will
continue to use them .

Re: FW: Moss Motors
Mike,
I don't think that the general feeling is anti-Moss. I think most
thinking list members is "Long May Moss Prosper". The issue is the
frustration felt when parts arrive which seem to be impossibly
incorrect, given that to get it right should not be difficult.....
Whilst out here in the distant Great Southern Land we've never had the
pleasure of having Moss back up a major Rally in the way that they did
your Ocean to Ocean, but their actions demonstrate the enthusiasm and
care for their customers that existed at the time and I doubt that too
much has changed.
You're correct it would be a disaster for Moss to no longer be here,
but I am sure that they don't deliberately set out to make a dud
part. What they need to do is to be more proactive during their parts
sourcing and certainly in their quality control.
