TA water pump

Post by mgtampjm » Fri Jun 20, 2003 1:38 am

Silly question time. How do I know that my water pump is working
correctly? The car has not overheated yet (boiled over) but since the
replacement engine has been fitted it runs hotter than I would like.
I have a temperature sensor in the top of the radiator and it runs at
75 to 80 degrees which seems too hot to me.
Any ideas.
Cheers
Mick

75 -80 degrees sounds OK to me. What is the thermostat rating? 72 deg. or so is fairly normal with unpressurised engines so the temp. will be a bit above this in normal running. Remember a thermostat keeps the temp. up not down and our engines have a lot of water in them unlike modern cars.

It may be that the new engine is generating more heat from higher
compression and more power, as well as parts not fully broken in. I've heard
others in the past say that a new engine will run hotter for a while.

75 - 80 degrees C is only about 167 - 176 degrees F. That's perfectly
normal. Don't worry, if your water pump weren't working you'd be seeing
steam.

TA Water Pump

I need some help from anyone that has disassembled a TA water pump. I
managed to get the rear bearing and the shaft out, along with the cover
on the front (held on with two screws) but it appears that there is an
insert or cover over the impeller, need suggestions on how to go
further. Regards Dean

TA Water Pump

Bill, it is still there, thanks for the info, was interest if it was a
step ring, which I see it is. Bob thanks you, the impellor had a sheet
metal screw in place of the pin, was able to get it out, with luck. I
know the pump case is probably case iron, is the impellor ring case iron
also, do you know? Do not want to beat on it to hard if so. Will try
some other things, probably not a good idea to heat it. I do not have
that small of a puller. See you in March. Thanks again to both of
you, the list is great. Cheers Dean

I have a TA water pump in need of restoration, Inspection has revealed that
the spindle is worn and so is the carbon seal. I have the bearings, does
anyone know where the worn parts can be obtained. With thanks.....Bob
