fuel warning light

Post by Brian Rowe » Mon Sep 26, 2005 2:38 pm

Hello group,
In the resurrection of TC 7000 I find the only thing I have not been able to find for the dash is the fuel warning light. If anyone has one to spare or knows of one available, if they could let me know it would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Brian

Craig Seabrook at the Whitworth Shop should be able to help you out with a
fuel warning light.
His number is 440-338-5950.

Fuel Warning Light

One issue with TC/2820 is the fuel warning light remains continuously lit. It is my understanding that the light should only illuminate when there is approximately 2.5 gallons of fuel remaining. Will keep plenty of fuel in the tank until it is sorted out.

Dave,

Your sender unit in the fuel tank probably has either developed a hole in
the float, filled with gas, and no longer floats up as designed when the
fuel level rises or the shaft has frozen in the empty position. You will
need to either free the shaft, fix the float, or replace the unit. Fixing
the float is pretty easy, but dangerous as it involves heat and solder, so
the float must be totally free of gasoline before the fix can be done.

There is information on the web on fixing the units. Here are a couple that
may help:
http://fromtheframeup.com/Documents/TT%20BP129%20Gas%20Tank%20Originality.pd
f and
http://www.british-cars.org/mgtd-mgtf1500-bbs/td-fuel-tank-sending-unit-2009
082004080514454.htm

There are plenty more.

Cheers!

Fuel Warning Light

Post by Doug Pelton » Sun Sep 23, 2012 5:38 pm

Greetings to all,  I am working on reproducing the early TC amber fuel warning light and would request help on the proper size lettering for the face.  I do not have a sample in hand but understand the lettering is “PET”, (all caps) and the font very close to “Arial”.  Can someone with this gauge confirm these specs and the height and width of lettering and then contact me off list.  Thanks,  Doug Pelton3754 E Nance CircleMesa, AZ  85215480-588-818548 MG TC 7410 EXU49 MG TC 7670 EXUwww.FromThe Frame Up.com

Hi Doug,   The original fuel warning light was green with black letters saying fuel.  I still have the original fuel light and it is still in 7517 and it has faded to a yellow (amber) color in the center from the sun, but around the edges where the sun did not hit, it is still green.   All the best, Jim Sullivan 5515 & 7517   From: frankgraham@msn.com Sent: Sunday, September 23, 2012 6:40 PM To: doug@fromtheframeup.com ; mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com Subject: RE: [mg-tabc] Fuel Warning Light
Doug,   I have a '46 TC and all TC original fuel warning lights I have ever seen have a green plastic lens with the word 'FUEL' in black applied to the inside of the lens. I have an NOS one, part of a batch of about 75 that I bought from Nisonger's in the mid 70's most of which I sold to Gerry Gougen at Abingdon Spares at the time. The one I still have still has a small paper label attached by clear tape around the barrel that says Smiths Motor Industries Limited  England. That label partially obscures a number stamped lengthwise in the metal barrel, what is visible is 379/4 which is part of a British war ministry number as this was a war surplus item from a British tank, I have also seen a matching lamp with a red lens marked 'oil' though these were never used by MG. The word 'FUEL' is in .25 high letters centered on the lens and the word spread is .525 with each letter almost touching the adjacent one. The lens is only .625 in diameter and the base of the 'F' and "L" just touch the perimeter of the lens.

Regards,

Fuel Warning Light

Hello all;  If you look at TC’s Forever you will see that on Page 55 it notes that Group 1 cars (TC/0251 to TC/1850) had a Petrol light with an amber lens rather than a Fuel light. Later on page 66 it says that the Fuel light was green.  Have a great day.  Bud SilversTC 1576 – Low n slo in the Black Forest of Colorado…….
