"umbrella like" cover over top?

Post by phinchcl » Mon Aug 22, 2005 7:41 am

I have occassionally seen a black thin fabric cover that is pulled
taught over the T-series with convertible top up. This cover only
extends to the base of the windscreen and bottom of the convertable
top and side curtains. I've seen them on cars left outside of a hotel
overnight when one is anticipating some particularly foul weather.

I have yet to determine where these units can be purchased. Does
anyone know?

Thanks for your help!

I suspect that they are made to order by local top shops. I use a marine top maker for anything like that. They have a product they call SUNGLOW in various colors including black, It is very thin but extremely strong woven material. I made a top and tonneau for my VA tourer and 12 years later it was still in good shape. It does not fade even in the Florida sun. A cover such as that would fold up and fit in the glove box of a TD.

Paul, you might want to take a look at my configuration at http://www.omgtr.ca/technical/Tonneau_Cover/Tonneau.htm

Almost any trimmer can make you what you describe.....

Paul, Depending on your location I would suggest you contact Edie Hubbard.
She custom makes the covers for TC's TD's and probably TF's. She has
patterns for the TC's that even have velco closures for around the
windshield mounted sideview mirrors. She will make the tops in black, navy
or dark khaki. I purchased one a few years back and am extremely satisfied.
She and her husband John are active in MG events around the Chicago area and
she is a really nice person.

Dear fellow "T" drivers (& restorers)

I don't see any reason to have a cover that covers only the top &
sidecurtains when a "WeatherShield" car cover covers the entire car and stows in about
the space smaller than a loaf of bread. This cover provides "umbrella like"
protection to the entire car with top up or down. WeatherShield is a microfiber
fabric especially developed by Covercraft to be the ultimate car cover fabric.
It is silky smooth, the most water repellent "safe" fabric, and very tough. It
installs on a t-type car in about 30 seconds. It is available in 6 colors,
including black, but I suggest the lighter colors to keep he car cooler. If you
have to use a cover outdoors full time, you might be interested to know the
cover comes with a full replacement (not prorated) 4-year warranty.

Warning! The following is a commercial message.

We can supply custom-fit WeatherShield covers for any car. For a T-ABC they
are only $226.00 USD.

Many people bought these covers from Autographics.. The owners name was Jim
Pesta, 8360 Curzon av. Cincinnati, Ohio 45216. Jim used to be an active
member of the NEMGTR and came to all the Gatherings but I have not seen him
for a while. Jim
