TB?TC fuel tank update
Pete- Thanks for the tank info, correct, who knows for sure !!! Did I mislead you any on the NOL cap or was it exactly as I said ? I thought there was an assembled & restored cap in the box as well, maybe not. The chrome knob will have to be drilled & tapped out to take a brass ( or better yet stainless steel screw ) and you MUST use LOCKTITE tp keep it from coming out. The tag should have said $48.00 for the brass original cover & all the parts to assemble. Was there a chain in the box as well ? Thanks mick

Hi Mick -
Yes, early TC fuel tanks had the filler cap sideways from standard. TC 0252 was missing her original tank
but I know TCs 0254 and 0258 have "sideways" caps - about 90o from the norm. Tom Wilson with
TCs 0272 and 0273 says his are about 30o which matches yours. Believe these tanks have the
cut-out for the fuel sender but don't know for sure how many openings in the bottom. Don't really
know much about TB tanks - all the pictures I see show normal orientation for the filler, but as we
know things could change in a hurry. Prototype TA also shows sideways filler - just to add to the
confusion!
Package did arrive on Saturday (fast!) and I'll definitely take the NOL cap. Also interested in the
redo kit (inner copper flange w/ knob, etc.) but there is no price indicated - what do you want for it?
Should I send to your street address or PO Box?
Thanks,
pete
Bruce/Pete - As an update, here are my findings to this point from TABC members/non-members & 'inner circle'. It appears that the off-center (30 degree angle) started about mid production TB & early TC (as TB spares were used on TC's.) From replies however, no one has a brass filler neck on theirs. Mine is not a 'homemade job', the neck has been swaged into the steel tank collar as a production item and would require tooling to do this. I don't know, maybe this is an early early TB mid-run tank. Also see Pete 's #0252 note. Bruce, I am still working on the .019" tag for you.
