5 Speed conversion for TC

Post by johnsrode@aol.com » Wed Jul 06, 2005 9:23 pm

I seek the wisdom of those who have gone before as I try to decide whether to proceed with a 5-speed transmission conversion on TC 7120: 1. My basic objectives are (a) to lower the rpms at 60-65 mph; (b) enjoy synchro on first gear; and (c) to reduce the noise level in the lower gears. 2. The TC is very much original, and I have no plans (at present) to supercharge or otherwise add hp. 3. Has anyone dealt directly with Hi-Gear Engineering or Peter Edney in the UK to procure one of their Ford Sierra "kits"? 4. Has anyone dealt with other suppliers whom I should consider? 5. Any thoughts on time/effort/skill required to install same? 5. Noting that both Hi-Gear and Peter Edney offer various ratios in the Ford Sierra boxes they can supply, I wondered what experience suggests? John S. John- I have dealt directly with Peter Edney and Hi Gear Engineering. I purchased a 5 speed conversion kit for one of my TC's and can say that I am very pleased with the quality of the kit and it's completeness. Every nut and bolt is provided including Loctite. Excellent instructions are included. You will need to have your speedometer recalibrated for use with this setup. My speedometer has been in England being rebuilt and recalibrated since January so you may want to plan ahead. Jim Dougherty TC 5382 TC 4931 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
