Oil leak at pressure gauge fitting at the block

Post by vze4xyru » Mon Jul 04, 2005 3:54 pm

At the oil pump casting boss, my TA has a petcock fitting screwed into the block to shut off the 1/8" line to the oil gauge on the dashboard. Apparently, the idea was to prevent oil loss if this line broke or the gauge needed service. The petcock has machined threads to go into the block, and a 1/8th tubing connection on the outlet side to the gauge. This petcock is leaking a large amount of oil around the handle. The handle is very loose and worn. Does anyone know if these petcocks are still available, what the block thread is for the male end of the petcock that screws into the block. It is either a straight machine thread or a (probably) tapered 1/8" BSP thread. I suppose it could be a straight BSP thread as well. At any rate, are any available in the US? Or the UK, for that matter? Thank you, Dick Little TA 1326 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Hi Dick The valve is probably a taper fit, take it out. Remove the keeper on the bottom, there is probably a spring there also. Push the handle part out, clean up both surfaces really good, go to a valve place, or an appliance parts outlet, and ask them for some valve grease, and coat both surfaces and put back together. You may need a new spring, see if you can find one at a hardware store etc, or if nothing else rob one off of a similar valve that is good.
