TC generator mystery solved, almost !!

Post by Mick Conde » Mon Jun 20, 2005 4:54 am

Joe - Looks like your were right again !! It is a 3 brush. Also, after detailing the brass tag carefully, the date is 4 9 nor 4 49 so it does appear to be from a TB. I cleaned up the case as well and it does appear to have been nickel plated and then repainted. Now I guess the only unanswered question is the brass tag 'special equipment', I don't have a clue, I've never seen that before. I will take this to tthe shop this morning and have it checked out and restored. Dave Kyle just picked up a TB Tickford and I think that car is going to be restored and needs a generator. Is a 3 brush set still available and do you have them if needed ? Thanks again for all your help and everyone in the group that added input. mick Pittsburgh PA joecurto@aol.com wrote: Mick is that a 3 brush generator? it may well be as the P/N as Bob G says is for a 39 Midget aka MGTB and I just rebuilt a TB unit owned by Henry Gurly of this list which also had the special equipment tag, but the date code appears correct for a 49 car. Mick I do not know what the origin of "special equipment" is but XK 120 Jags also had that tag and maybe MGSA , I do not have any 3 brush stuff but maybe Abingdon spares does or Mike Dowley in England. actually the main brushes I believe are normal. we did Henry Gurlys generator in nickel plate with black end plates but we chucked the main casing in the lathe and renewed the concentric rings in the case and it looked swell.
