REMOVING AND REPLACING THE CORE PLUG AT THE REAR OF THE ENGINE BLO

I thought that you experienced guys out there may be able to help me resolve a conundrum. What is the easiest way to remove the core plug from the rear of the block without removing the engine? Having achieved this what is the most straightforward way to fit a new plug, again without removing the block? Your advice would be welcomed please.
