The selector lever from my Alaska TC (1947) gearbox is in bad shape. It was causing it jump out of 4th gear to the point that I had to remove the engine, gear box etc to replace it with a Moss brass or bronze replacement part. After all that work I found that it is very stiff to shift, to the point of being annoying. I want to have a machinist weld some material on the old original, and then mill it back to specs. It doesn't require too much effort to replace it without removing the engine, only the cover plate etc. The old selector lever is sitting my desk. The faces, which actually move the gears are so battered by thousands of shifts that I can't get measurements that I trust. With a micrometer it seems that:
1. The two faces were parallel.
2. The thickness was close to 0.300 inch.
But it is so battered I really don't trust these observations.
Does anyone have one in good shape that they can measure accurately, and e-mail me, the results? I don't want to clutter up everybody's e-mail box, but if the specs are of general interest send it to the group.
Spring is approaching here in Alaska, with breakup coming in May, so I am looking foreward to being able to get my car out back on the road, and the wind in my face.
Thank you.
