Re: Digest Number 2057
Hi all,
I must have been looking out of the window when dizzy. cams were being
discussed. Why different cam profiles? The electonic ignition is of interest
to me as I have a miss-fire at high revs which I think is due to worn
distributor bearings. I realise elactronic ignition wo'nt cure this problem.

Richard / Ian,
I have recently fitted an ' Ignitor' from Aldon Automotive and it works
fine. It was a positive earth model for our 1949 TC EXU.
Make sure that you identify the shape of the dizzy cam before you order. I
needed a unit to suit the asymmetric cam in our dizzy. There are three
shapes of cams i.e.symmetric / asymmetric / high lift. These are shown on
page 528 in the W.E. Blower MG Manual.
The chap to speak to at Aldon is ' Rob ' who is fully aware of the model you
will need relative to the cam as fitted in your dizzy. The unit was a doddle
to fit.

Re: Digest Number 2057
I'm disappointed!
The stock Lucas Dizzy will do a fine job up well past the power peak of the XPAG. It just needs to be looked after.
If you've got worn bushings, have them replaced! Wouldn't you do this on your daily driver??
New points and condensor, plus a decent cap and HT wires, and you're good to go. Set the point gap and timing to specs, check them once in a while, and make sure the plugs are cleaned and gapped. That's all part of the fun of operating a fine piece of vintage machinery, an integral part of the hobby.
Why are we wasting time and money on electronic ignition? If that's what you want, get a Hyundai!
