On a TC convertible hood frame - do the legs of the frontmost bow (the one that rests on the windscreen) sit on the inside or outside edge of the other frame pieces as they are riveted together?
The new Moss frame I just received has this leg riveted on the outside, which puts a lot of pressure on the joints, and prevents it from folding smoothly. I recall that this piece should be on the inside.
Other than that, the frame is pretty nice - looks like it's even painted the correct color. Moss used phillips head instead of slotted screws - that's the only other detail that doesn't appear original. Kind of pricey, but it's saving me lots of hours in the completion of TC4378.

Re: TC Hood Frame
Tom,
I've just checked my original "early" frame and the two legs of the front
frame are loose riveted to the INSIDE of the middle support. I can't see how it
would work otherwise.

Re: TC Hood Frame
Tom,
I just went and took a peek at my TC's hood and if I understand your
explanation correctly my legs of the front bow attach to the outside. Now
Joe said his was early and inside. My TC is TC 5108 so not early and I have
no reason to believe it is not the original bows. Now these two legs each
have two rivet or pivot points and there is a slight bend to the leg close
to the second rivet as it runs to the front bow. It all folds down just
fine as I recall but it has been eons since I've put it up and down. I can
take a picture if you want.
Hope this helps,

TC Hood Frame
Notes on the hood frame question
From a geometric point of view, unless that leg is prebent, riveting this piece to the outside puts an awful lot of pressure on each joint. Maybe that's why they wear into an oval shape. My early TCs have the leg on the inside. Maybe it was moved to the outside so the side curtains will rest flush against the frame leg. It changes the span across the legs by about 2", which is half of the distance the tub was widened at the middle.
The 3 responses so far - 1 on the inside (John's TC0301) and 2 on the outside (later cars) do suggest that maybe just the early TCs had the legs riveted on the inside.
This frame is for TC4378. It goes on the car Saturday (along with the new Wigan top). If anyone else has info or ideas, send them on before I start the deed!
Thanks.

TC Hood frame
Hallo listers,
I am Hans Meeder from the Netherlands and new on the list.
Been restoring British sportcars for over 25 years, but this is my
first TC. Chassis nr. 6046, from '48. Have done a ground up
restoration. Car is finnished in Ivory with green interior.
The hoodframe was extensively altered for a homemade cover.
I wood like to bring it back to original size.
Do any of you have a side vieuw drawing of the frame, with distance
between rivets or pivot points.
Any info will be higly apreciated.
Hans
