Moss radiator TC

Post by jeffrey townsend » Thu Nov 22, 2018 2:29 pm

Hi All, If you have bought a new Moss radiator could you confirm: Is quality good, did it fit to chassis and headlamp brackets well and did rad surround fit to it correctly? If you think there may be a better source for a new radiator could you confirm please. All opinions appreciated. The rad is for TA1957 which will have an XPAG engine. Regards Jeff. Hi Jeff,I purchased a Moss radiator last year.  The quality was good but I did have an issue with it.  Apparently when they were made the two brackets either side of the top center of it were not installed.  These brackets are used to support and secure the shell to the radiator.  I called Moss and they checked several more new ones and they were all missing these brackets.  Moss compensated me for having these made and installed.  Not difficult to make, they are basically a U shaped bracket, one side soldered to the radiator tank and the other side drilled to accept the flat head machine screw that goes through the chrome shell.  Other than this the radiator fits well and I had no problems installing it in the shell of my TC.  Since this was over a year ago you might check with Moss and see if they have had this corrected.Hope this helps,Neil NelsonFleming Island, FLTC 0526TC 4161

The filler neck is a little farther back than a stock one.Could hang up on the false nose, and back of shell, unless you want to file a little material away,on both parts.I removed the top brackets from the old radiator. John SeimIrvine, CA

Hi Jeff,

I have fitted and sold a number of the Moss radiators. The problems highlighted with fit and lack of tabs on the top was definitely problematic with Moss radiators. However, that was the previous batch and stated issues have been corrected with current stock. I consider the radiators spot on. Also be aware, I do not know of any other source. I used to rebuild originals but very labor intensive and costly. So, I recommend a new radiator vice trying to rebuild. Exception: TA, I still rebuild the TA radiators.

#ygrps-yiv-1646678705 P {margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0;} Hi Neil and Doug, Thanks for your very helpful replies about the Moss TC radiator. It sounds like they have ironed out a few issues and these units are now good. I will miss not having the old Morris Motors tag on the header tank but it doesn't sound like it's worth getting the TA one rebuilt and converted for XPAG connection. Thanks again, Jeff  N. Hi Doug,  Spot on with your observations.  I have added 3 Moss radiators back in 2008, (cars were vandalized and radiators stolen for scrap in 2007) These were Moss from the first batch, and even those all worked well.     The SA needed an original of course. Haggerty took over 2 days to send me a check for $35k to cover the damage.....I only asked for and documented $26k, and when I inquired about the extra $9k,  they said, "aren't you worth something for your labor to install them?"       Great company to work with..... Hi Jeff.

I ve just ordered a Moss TC rad as I m about to fit another 4/44 based engine and thought it would be easier than the present set up I ve used for over 40yrs with a 4/44 (Late TD/TF) thermostat housing and a 50mm modified outlet. A 50mm flexi-hose does work, but it s a bitch to get on. Pic attached if any of this gets through the wonder of Yahoo!!!

The Moss rads are on offer at the moment, so considering the cost to get the header altered, (although I had the TA rad re-cored several years ago) it seems to make economical sense to buy new (the bottom hose bit is easier to get round) so giving the old gal a Christmas treat hope it fits !!!

Rock on!

Nigel

Hi Neil and Doug,

Thanks for your very helpful replies about the Moss TC radiator. It sounds like they have ironed out a few issues and these units are now good. I will miss not having the old Morris Motors tag on the header tank but it doesn't sound like it's worth getting the TA one rebuilt and converted for XPAG connection.

Thanks again,
