Gene is right. Some TD blocks used a 3 hole bracket to hold the external oil filter. Plug the third hole. Please make sure the oil filter adapter is TIGHT to the block to avoid vibration and oil pipe fatique.Bob, Canadaj From:

Good evening MGers I am just finishing off an engine rebuild and about to bolt on a new spin off oil filter. The bracket/strap has two offset holes with corresponding tapped holes on a pad onn the block. So far so good. I have a third tapped hole in the ppad/block just above the other two for which I can see no purpose. Is it from a block design that held a different style oil filter? Presumably it just needs a bolt to blank it off? Advice appreciated Regards Geoff TC6996
