Leaking Hood

Post by david469463 » Wed Apr 25, 2018 10:24 am

A new double duck hood was fitted to my TC about five years ago by the previous owner. However, he didn't drive the car, let alone take it out in the rain. When I drive in the rain, which seems to be often, the material is fine, but water comes through the stitching and I get very wet! I would have expected waxed thread to have been used and I could now try to rub candle wax into the stitching. Can anyone suggest a good method of making the stitching waterproof?

David, The outdoor and camping industry retail a number of very effective products for re waterproofing tents and outdoor clothing. I'd suggest that would be a good place to start the hunt. Candle wax may well make the hood look odd on the seams, whereas a "Tent Proofer" could be washed over the whole hood a few times.
