Hi, I'm attempting to re-wire TC0917 with a new loom purchased from Moss
UK. I'm following the 1945-48 (Home market) wiring diagram from the TC
Instruction manual, and I've got a question regarding the earthing of
the instrument panel. Looking at the diagram it appears that the two
panel lamps are earthed to the panel via their brackets. As far as I
can see, the only place the panel itself might get earthed is via the
positive inspection socket. Is the correct? Do I have to isolate the
negative inspection socket from the panel, but make sure that the
positive socket has a good electrical contact with the panel? When I
purchased the car I inherited a home-spun loom that didn't connect up
things like the Ammeter (it didn't have one), panel lamps, inspection
sockets and fog lamp, so I'm unable to use the existing wiring as a
guide.
Any help much appreciated.

That is correct, that is the earthing point or grounding point, and if
you are using positive ground, the negative terminal has to be isolated
from the panel. If you have the sockets, one of them should have an
insulator, it would not hurt to run a jumper from the tub to the panel
also, just to make sure you have a good ground, any type of stranded
copper wire would do, it would not have to be very heavy (small gauge
will do)

Re: Instrument panel earth
I sort of remember that the earthing-wire for the panel went on one of the
threaded posts for either the speedometer or the tach.

Re: Instrument panel earth
ON the TD with internal lighting for the speedo and tach, there are
earth wires from the mounting stud wheels of the instruments to the dash
panel. That's because of the rubber mounting rings under them.

Not to mention the wooden dashboard.
