Off Topic, but harmless

Post by Martin Johnson » Thu May 30, 2002 2:11 pm

Hello I'm helping a non-mechanical work-mate get his 1960 TR3a back on the road this weekend. Specifically, its the clutch (not stuck, just worn out) I have 25+ years of MG, Healey, and Jaguar experience, but no Triumph. I don't want to bring more tools than I have to. Are its fasteners SAE, metric or BSW? Thanks in anticipation, and I hope you all will view this as helping to keep another British car on the road. Thanks, Martin

TR2/3/4 fasteners are mostly Unified Standard (SAE). The exceptions are British Standard fasteners used on some parts made by other suppliers like Lucas, SU, etc. You should be okay with a set of SAE wrenches, but take along a BS set too if you have room. -- Chip Old 1948 M.G. Flash report on the TR3 clutch fix- Thanks for the info BTW, all went well, came apart and went together uneventfully, had to fabricate a new slave cylinder push rod from 5/16 stock, no big deal, but took extra time and a trip to the hardware store. Observation: TR's are really well put together! I'm very impressed with how heavy-duty and solid everything is. No wonder there are so many TR3's out there. I think the only natural enemy is rust. Thanks to you folks another British car is being driven daily again. Martin Johnson
