XPAG engine mouning plate for my TC

Dear XPAG friends, I need for my TC4170 with XPAG 4814 the original front engine mounting plate. It s not very urgent, because XPAG 4814 works with a selfmade mounting plate at the moment (not done by me) and I want to replace the mounting plate maybe within the next years during a complete engine reconditioning. Wolfgang Engine mounting plates are available from Kilmartin Automotive Sheetmetal in Ballarat, Australia. I don't have their details with me - I'll post these up tomorrow (if someone else doesn't beat me to it). Kilmartin make a lot of repro items for MG's and other makes and supply some of the distributors such as Moss. Mark Jablonski Melbourne Australia

Wolfgang, I have a spare front mounting plate which I would be willing to let you have but I am not sure that it is correct. It is the same as the one which is fitted to my car, however, and was on the car when I got it in 1966. I am replying to the whole list because for a long time I have been meaning to ask the knowledgeable ones what they think of my front plate. I have been putting it off in the belief that a photo would be necessary but your query has prompted me to try to describe the problem. Basically the starting handle is unusable as the holes do not line up with the starter dog (and yes the chassis is straight). The whole engine is canted over to the Lhs (looking forward) just enough to put the holes out of line. It is so little out of line that I didn't even notice it during the rebuild. I have now put spacer washer under between the mounting and the plate to try to correct the height discrepancy it but it is still too far left. The LHS front plate mounting is lower than the other one and is canted over to this side also (if you see {sic} what I mean). The spate plate is the same i.e. if you look at it from the front with the bottom of the mounting tubes at the same height they are canted to the right. They only become upright if the RHS of the plate (looking from the front) is raised quite a long way. Has anyone seen this before? Are these plates correct? Are the chassis mountings at the same height? (mine are but is this correct?). The car runs fine but it would be nice to be able to use the starting handle. Easy fix. Cut one of the tubular mounts loose (hack saw and disk grinder with solid abrasive wheel). Line everything up, carefully mark the loose mount, and reweld; gas or arc, either is fine. Don TC 7993

Ian, I have the same problem with my car. It's due to an earlier weld repair to the plate which has pulled the plate over one way. I've bought a new plate against the day I pull the engine out. This includes 10% Australian GST which wouldn't apply to O/S orders Kilmartin make all sorts of replacement panels, brackets etc, for the TC e.g., front & rear number plate backing, body frames, radiator cradle, chassis to firewall brackets, body mounting brackets. They also have components for other cars (TD, TF, MGA, MGB, Triumph, Austin Healy etc.) I have no connection other than as a satisfied customer.
