Hi John, A little rubber conditioner makes it flexible to go on with pedals in place. To help maintain location during installation, a touch of contact cement on the rubber was helpful while the retainer plate was installed. To make it actually work, I added some thin crosslinked polyethlyene closed cell foam, (black) as a 'donut seal' between the rubber and firewall. It is undetectable and may actually work. Actually, I use this foam all over the car to act as a hidden seal when needed. It is .125" (3mm) thick and has an adhesive film on one side with a liner. Cut it with a scissors to the desired shape. It is stackable to seal thicker gaps. This material is used currently in cars for the same purpose and to also dampen noise between metal panels. It replaces the felt stuff from the 50s. I make parts for OEM from it and purchase the foam in 60" x 600' rolls. I will cut a chunk any size you want at my cost. Contact off list for details if intereste Added note: In trying to get reluctant trafficators to work, I neglected the vibration factor from a running engine/vehicle.
