condenser was soddered to the distributor plate?

I found that the condenser was soddered to the distributor plate on the 48 MGTC. This cant be normal? It doesn't seem to be in any of the books I have? Has anyone heard of such a thing? I assume I'll have to heat it up and take it off to replace it? Adventures in restoration, Victoria Smith McKenna 1948 MG TC5839
