How far does your tire hang out?

Post by rmeismer1@aol.com » Sun Mar 17, 2002 3:15 pm

Is anybody near there TC that could check and see how far the spare tire sets out from the gas tank? My tire rack was bent when I got it and an now ready to put it back on. On my car it is setting about 2 in. out. From M.G.( Meismer's Garage) Rolland Meismer Burlington,Iowa U.S.A. 1946 TC #3409--1951 TD #5522

Rolland

On mine, the spare tire is pretty much parallel with the gas tank, the very top of the carrier is about the width of my little pinky from the gas tank, it does not touch, but is very close. Hope that helps

Cheers Dean

As best I can measure it is 1.375 inches from the tank surface to the joint where the tire carrier aluminum piece bolts to the cast iron/steel piece. Does that make sense? I measured towards the top of this so as not to get into where the tank has the recess for the carrier. Measuring tank to tire would vary some depending on which tire you have. That is why I a measured metal to metal distance. The tire does more or less parallel the tank but the tank has a slight curve to it and the tire doesn't. I also do not claim this to be factory accurate, but is only what my TC measures. David Edgar, TC 5108 El Cajon, California
