I can't take it anymore....

Post by ross macpherson » Tue Mar 12, 2002 10:38 pm

Sorry Jim but I just don't have the time to wade through the piles of dross our list is generating lately. Please unsubscribe me. I will miss many of the list members and their valuable input. I will NOT miss the strident nationalism, the originality police/hot rodder debate and the other boring non-informative threads. I had hoped this list would rise above others I've been party to but I guess it's just the nature of the beast. I hope to rejoin the list sometime in the future (when I have more time and more patience). I wish all members and their cars well but I just don't have the time for this now. With regret, Ross MacPherson PS if you can, please confirm my "unsubscription". PPS If I never personally said it before allow me now to express my gratitude to you and Walter for the time and effort you expend on our behalf. I have been involved in this kind of undertaking in the distant past so I can almost appreciate the commitment to the project you two have made; my hat's off to you both. Thank you. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.332 / Virus Database: 186 - Release Date: 06/03/02

Can't say some of didn't see it coming, Ross. I couldn't agree with you more. This was never intended as a "chat room", and some of us are just barely hanging on. We need a "bullshit police" more than we need the bullshit, in my not-so-humble opinion. Austin

Ross, Although I agree with some of your irritation over the non-informative drivel that appears on the TABC list, I think that you are taking exactly the WRONG approach to the problem by leaving the list yourself. You are cutting yourself off from a source that is unique. May I suggest the following: 1) Realize that you don't have to actually read every msg that comes in, and use the DELETE button more liberally. 2) On an occasion when someone posts the type of msg which you find objectionable, send that one person (not the entire TABC list) a msg telling them so, and why you object. You can store such a msg in "mail waiting to be sent", and not have to re-enter it every time you want to use it. 3) It seems to me that ALL list members have an OBLIGATION to be something MORE than mere "LURKERS". In other words, we all must contribute information, and questions. We have only ourselves to blame if msgs posted are inappropriate. 4) As TABC owners, we are all in the same boat, a SMALL number of otherwise isolated individuals. We need each other. Thus endeth the sermon for today. Regards, Carl Fritz TC # 6756 (Betsy) VA # 2009 S (Abigail) Gainesville, Florida

Of course it's a chat room Austin. That is, it's a bunch of guys who love cars getting together over a couple of virtual beers. How the Hell can you imagine that the world's longest marathon game of MG Trivial Pursuit could possibly be tolerable without anyone ever cracking a smile or poking fun or expressing an opinion contrary to your own rigid one. I am far more heavily involved in cars (not just MGs) than 95% of you other guys, I've shown cars at Pebble Beach, I vintage raced for years, I owned and operated a restoration shop for years. I've owned them all and driven them all from W.O. Bentleys to many Aston Martins, a hundred or more MGs, Bugattis, Ferraris, Maseratis, Rolls Royce, Alvis, Etc. Etc. Etc. and I gotta tell ya guys, it really ain't about what color your header tank is or how many holes you have in your firewall. It's about the wind in your hair, and enjoying life, and laughter, and a little glimpse of the world through a windscreen of 50 years ago. It's about freedom and sex - yes, that's right, freedom - and - sex because, for many (most) (all) of us, that's exactly what these cars symbolized way back when we where 16 and 17 - and they still do (or should!). An old car, like life, like sex is inherently imperfect and anyone who can't just lay back and enjoy it for what it is without nit-picking it half to death or enjoy a chuckle without notifying the "bullshit police" is just another old fart ready for "the home". I do know what it's all about. For many of you guys, these cars represent one's own youth or, more accurately, they are a monument dedicated to one's own youth and therefore they must be "perfect" in every detail and deadly serious like most mausoleum statuary. Hey, do what you want pal but I'm gonna say what I want so don't give me no crap about "bullshit police". Badger, Still crazy after all these years.

I was away this weekend till Tuesday. When I got back, I had 123 emails, with the preponderance of them from the mg-tabc site. I'm not a fast reader, but in opening each one, it didn't take more than a few seconds to determine whether I needed/wanted to continue. In the first 5 minutes, I was down to the few that I saved/skipped to read till later. My delete key works wonderfully fast, and I enjoy being the master of what suits me. Keep up the banter!! Ross, I too had the same feelings a couple of years back! And (I hope Murry will appreciate this) I took my toys and left the group. Six months later, I came back to my senses and rejoined. I'll admit that I was a REAL ASS over quitting and am glad to be back. I do agree that there are times when the members can get carried away and like you get frustrated with the issues written. But, with any group, I have come to realize that not everyone has a good day all the time. I am a diehard Originality owner. But, these cars are getting older and older and if it means some modifications to enjoy driving them, well...... so be it. It doesn't really matter in the long run. I just like to see a T car drive by in this day and age. I don't write much to the list and I do have my faithful "Delete Key" next to me when it gets tooo much. Sorry to see you leave and hope you too come back in the future. Bruce Collins TC #2721 XPAG #3355 PS: I can't agree with you more in regards to Jim and Walter's work! And praises go out to Austin for the great Badge!
