VA engine in a TA

VA engine in a TA hi Group - a quick question from a TA owner in Sweden (will have to get him to join the list). He has a TA with a cracked head (leaks water even after expert repair) and has seen a VA lump for sale. Does anyone know whethewr the front bearer plate is the same, or anything else about installation??? oc[b]T[/b]agonally Roger

I am intending to fit a 12hp engine into my TA, although it is a long-term restoration. Finding info on this operation is proving very difficult, although fellow lister Peter Guth has been very helpful with info on his conversion - thanks Peter.

The TA front bearer plate is not interchangeable as the bolt spacing for the timing cover etc is different. Peter has used a specially-made bearer plate on his car.

The other major problem is the rear gearbox mounting. The TA mounting plate does not fit the larger VA/TC size gearbox, and seemingly you can't use an alumin(i)um TC mounting plate because of the extra length of the 12hp lump. The bulkhead toe board will also need modifying to clear the larger bellhousing.

I cannot imagine that Abingdon would have gone to great trouble when fitting the 12hp engine to the TA Cream Crackers. After the closure of the racing shop and the edicts of Len Lord, it would have a case of finding the most economic means to increase the competetiveness of the trials cars.

Perhaps the custodians of the remaining genuine works Cream Crackers would be able to clear up the matter?
