TA King Pins and Bushings

Post by Kenneth Enborg » Mon Feb 18, 2002 5:20 pm

TA/TB/TC Question: When I removed the king pins and bushings on my 1936 TA I discovered that one side had what appeared to be the original king pin with a "top hat" brass bush ( term used in the Moss/Naylor catalogue). The other side had what appeared to be a TC pin and bush w/o the top hat. Since I am going to replace them can I use either? Is there any difference between the two? Are they interchangeable? Thanks, Ken Enborg

Hi Ken. I am sure the steering knuckles are different. You will find the TC steering knuckle is thicker where the bushes go. The early TA type are thinner in the knuckle and the flange on the top hat takes up the difference. So, no the bushes are not interchangeable. BTW, my TC stub axle shafts can be used on the early or late TA in the event the original stub axle is cracked. I would have the originals magnafluxed for cracks before using them. Which TA type do you need to get a matched set? Right or left. I may have a spare.
