Carb. Needles

Very interesting Email from Skip the other day concerning the use of EL needles in conjunction with extractor manifold,etc. For those of us running basically standard engines but with skimmed, big valve cylinder heads does this indicate that a richer needle than the standard ES is advisable, possibly EM or GJ? The previous owner of my TC fitted needle no.5 which is relatively rich but maybe this was correct? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Brian.
