MG TA shocks

Post by DenKlemm@aol.com » Thu Jan 03, 2002 3:55 pm

Hi I'm new to this list and recently purchased 1937 MGTA. The car has been in parts and dry storage since 1972. I have ordered manuals from the Octagon MG Car Club, but they have not arrived yet. I'm a bit confused about the front shocks. The car has been converted to tube shocks. Was this common? I see that NTG sells a set of front shocks for 500 pounds. Barry Walkers is offering TA shocks with links etc, for 295 pounds each. He is also recommending that I use TC shocks. To me the pricing seems high, especially since he offered a set of 4 TA shocks in the Octagon Bulletin a year ago for 65 pounds. Is there a big difference between the TC shocks and the TA shocks? What is the difference between TA and VA shocks? Is there a more reasonable place to buy shocks? Has anybody put together a list of parts that interchange between the TA, TB, and TC? Any help is greatly appreciated. Dennis 1937 TA 1937 VA 1952 TD

It is not uncommon to see a TA with tube shocks, the correct Luvax shock is very hard to find (at any price) TC shocks are easier to find, are double acting, and should give better performance than TA shocks. The originality police should look away. the most common comment about Mr, Walker is his "rather high" prices!! I will not comment further other than to say I just bought a pair of TC shocks to replace the tube shocks on my TA for the sum of 100 they require rebuiding with new bushes and seals, but those parts are very cheap. if you really want TA Luvax type then try Vintage and Classic Shock Absorbers in Croydon UK. They also rebuild Luvax shocks Alan Webster TA 3239
