I have just returned from a drive in TC 3423 on this lovely Boxing Day morning here in Devon. It is dry but a very cold northerly wind blowing. Not a cloud in the sky, and families out walking the lanes with kids on their new bikes all waving when they heard the roar of an MG exhaust. TC2626 has also been out for exercise today in beautiful December sunshine in middle Germany. Started first pull after being ignored for several weeks (of course). Reactions of all boxing day walkers of the over-40 age group was marvellous and not unexpected. When will the younger generation start to appreiate what a privilege it is to be on the same earth as these wonderful creatures (at least those that are used in the winter by the true enthusiasts)? We have my parents and aunt (average age 83) visiting from England, and went out for a little tourism in the early afternoon in convoy, the wrinklies in the car with a heater. I had to hand over the keys to my wife for the return journey, not worried by air temperature -1 degrees (or 30 to the transatlantic fraternity). Still never got round to fitting the hood (roof). When the sun is shining it doesn't seem important. Best wishes to T-type perverts all around the world Richard and Ute, TC2626

IF MY BODY WERE A TC... If my body were a TC, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model. I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull ..... But that's not the worst of it. My headlights are out of focus and it's especially hard to see things up close. My traction is not as graceful as it once was. I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather. My tires are stained with varicose veins. It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed. My fuel rate burns inefficiently. But here's the worst of it -- Almost every time I sneeze, cough or sputter, either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires! Seeing we all seem to be past the first flush of youth

I thought the following might be appropriate !

  Another year has passed    And we're all a little older.    Last summer felt hotter   And winter seems much colder.      There was a time not long ago    When life was quite a blast.    Now I fully understand    About 'Living in the Past'              We used to go to weddings,     Football games and lunches..     Now we go to funeral homes     And after-funeral brunches.              We used to have hangovers,    From parties that were gay.    Now we suffer body aches     And whine the night away.           We used to go out dining,    And couldn't get our fill.    Now we ask for doggie bags,     Come home and take a pill..          We used to often travel    To places near and far.    Now we get sore asses     From riding in the car.           We used to go to nightclubs    And drink a little booze.    Now we stay home at night    And watch the evening news.         That, my friend is how life is,    And now my tale is told.     So, enjoy each day and live it up...    Before you're too damned old!   .

Fascinating sentiments Dave - with which I have some accord.

However, the message surely should be to work and play with others whatever their age or sex!

Have fun and just put to the back of your mind thoughts of the grim reaper!

But above all just do those things that you really want to do  NOW! No putting off that restoration but just go ahead and do it and

really enjoy it. If you don't have the skills then pay for someone to do it for you - it's not necessarily  a `cheque book restoration' but one in which you have actively taken part. Then when its finished - just drive and enjoy it!

Of course some may realise that the T Type you have restored/ are restoring/are thinking of restoring is a tad too small for you - especially if you last drove one in your teens - and the brakes, suspension and steering are nothing like your modern. How often do you see that happening? We all know that!  But my thinking is to look at your wish list of things you want to do and if a resto of the pile of junk in your garage is that important then just do it and sell it on! At least you have fulfilled one of your ambitions. You can then use the resources to fund some of those aspirations that you thought you might never achieve.

It really is about getting things done, rather than procastinating on your back side with a beer in your hand and feeling grumpy about the next generations! Just have fun and do it!
