Clubs, comments invited please

One has a pre war Aston and a Frazer Nash, another has about 30 cars including a 120, Cooper, SS100, Arnolt MG, etc. Another has a pre war Alfa, not to mention the hoards or TR 3, Healey 100, and MG drivers that are motoring around with no club affiliation. I have never been to GoF and only recently joined my local Vintage MG Club (after 9 years of T ownership and 29 years of MG ownership). Just joined NAMGAR after 25 years of Twin Cam ownership and 14 years of Deluxe ownership. My Bentley Continental is "unknown" to any club, and on and on. I guess, and I speak only for myself, is that most club publications feature members at various functions. I am not really interested in seeing images of Joe Drutz, and how he has aged, during the 25 years-in-a-row he attended club Christmas parties. Also, if i joined every club for which I have a car two things would happen -- the first is that I wouldn't have any money to run the cars, and second, I wouldn't have any time to do anything as I would be spending all my time reading the publications. This hobby take A LOT of time. Just my .02 cents worth. And not even worth that. I sincerely would be interested in other list members comments. Has their club membership experience been positive or negative? Now that I have re read this email, I think I'm just kind of grumpy. Thanks Ron in Chicago Membership in: MASCDCS - meets once a month, in NYC, which is 1000 miles from my home ERA Club - meets about once every 6 years, in the UK, as far as I can tell Lake Drive 100 MPH Club - meets twice a year in Milwaukee Interstate 90,185 MPH Club - sole member Brooklands Society - meets in the UK ACM - just because Only the Brooklands Society feels the need to send out a publication. I must thank the other clubs for not following suit.

Ron, Sorry, I did not mean to imply that NOT belonging to a club was wrong, but that if we could get the info for another TC on Jerry Austin's known MG list then we would have a better idea of how many TCs are still out there and not in a scrap pile. Personally, beyond this TABC group, I currently belong to only one club, having recently rejoined after about a 10 years absence because kids and other family time took priority. As far as publications go, everyone looks for something different. I love the technical articles but also enjoy seeing member pictures. Owning and driving the TC is fun in itself, but interacting with similar minded old farts is a kick also. Seeing them in person at meetings and in newsletters is nice. Maybe clubs should provide two levels of membership. One with all the bells and whistles (newsletters) and one bare boned for those that just want to be on the roster. Each of us wants something different and that is what makes this world so interesting and not boring. OK Ron, what car did you join the Interstate 90 185 MPH club with? (just in case I want to boost the membership up by 100% and start a newsleter,) David Edgar, TC 5108 El Cajon, California Membership in: TABC Forever TC Motoring Guild Interstate 15, 82 MPH in a TC At 3:40 PM -0500 11/4/01, RonMGTC@aol.com wrote:
