Fitting a TC Hood

Post by Mark Stolzenburg » Sun Sep 23, 2001 10:18 am

Last December, Clifford Knight posted an informative article to the technical section of the mg-tabc web site regarding fitting a TA hood. In the article he provided measurements of 41 inches from the floor boards to the central bow of the hood frame, and 21 inches from the rear bow to the tonneau floor. He also said that TC measurements could be different. Does anyone on the list know or have the measurements for a TC?
Thanks,

Re: [mg-tabc] Fitting a TC Hood Mark In my case this dimension was 40 in., but I think it will differ greatly. There are however a number of variables that are more important than this height. Firstly you need to get the right place on the body for the fixing plate ( you may already have fixing holes here) but it can vary, if I remember rightly there is no captive plate here and wood screws are used (make sure they are a good size) and this position affects the fixing to the screen (slight tolerance here as the screen can move back or forward slightly) and the fit of the hood bows into the body at the rear, and this is where; it can get critical; the bows need to drop in with the hood fabric to allow correct folding and the tonneau cover to fit nice and flat. If you can achieve the above, measure the height to the hood bow and accept it! I wanted to get more height but found it impossible, so my recourse was to dispense with the seat runners to gain the extra inch, my seats are fixed at the rear with hinged plates and so I fit in OK with just over an inch to spare above my head which seems to be enough, even on bumpy roads, I haven't hit the frame yet! Incidentally, there are two different frames for the TC, well documented in Sherrill; I don't know whether this makes any difference, perhaps some of the others may know. In my case, I have the earlier hood bows although the car is a late one. Hope this helps Tony TC9825
