Dimension request

Post by Mark McCombs » Sun Sep 02, 2001 5:49 pm

Mayday call...
OK, I am reassembling after a complete tub rebuild. Currently, the body angle irons (with main rails attached) are lightly bolted to the frame points. My Diff ramp is also bolted on. My backboard is bolted on to the rear body angle attaching points, using the holes that were in the backboard from a rebuild years ago. These holes measure 9.25" up from the bottom of the backboard cutout area (directly below the body angle holes in the backboard). These are also the dimension referenced in TC' Forever.I also installed the new tin sidecutain back, and the new strips that form the diff cover holing area.
NOW the problem: The back "turnover" part of the sidecurtain back, that should lie flat on the rear diff cover area strip and nail down to it, is .25" too high to lie flat on that rear strip. This sidecurtain tin was purchased and also matches Sherrills dimensions.
Any Thoughts? Could the 9.25 dimension from Sherrill suppose to be 9.50, which would lift the body angle (and rear strip) up the .25" it needs? Does anyone out there have a gas tank off that could verify that 9.25 dimention, even though it seems to fit just right at that height? All dimensions came from TC'S Forever.
Frustration reigns currently-
Thanks in Advance,
Mark, struggling with TC 8126

Mark I've just checked the holes in my car and they are indeed 9.5" up from the bottom of the rear panel. I seem to recall that in this area I found one or two discrepancies in the dimensions from TCs Forever, versus the patterns I had available to me. I'm satisfied that these patterns were original pieces, so maybe there were variations from batch to batch of bodies or else the gremlins put the odd typo into the book. Regards Dave Dwyer J2, TA, TC
