Greetings, A friend of mine is having Whitepost Restorations restore their '48 TC. At this time, the restorer poses the question; Should the aluminum oil pan be natural or engine color? Thanks, Bruce Woodson

Thanks for the quick response, and I have another question. What is the U.S. equivalent of an English (or is it Imperial) gallon? I'm refilling the crankcase of a 1924 Rolls 20hp. Thanks again! Bruce Woodson

Authenticity Questions

Bruce Woodson asks: "Thanks for the quick response, and I have another question. What is the U.S. equivalent of an English (or is it Imperial) gallon? I'm refilling the crankcase of a 1924 Rolls 20hp." One Imperial gallon is equal to approximately 1.200950385 U.S. gallons. However, in the interests of strict authenticity, these units are defined differently now than they were in 1924, and there may well have been a difference in the 8th or 9th decimal places back then. My 1946 TC has a natural one. I believe this is correct Charles

Ahhhh, I think they predate the 1911 issue by a thousand years give or take! Ray McCrary "Speed is Life; of course Luck and Altitude are helpful, too."

Right or wrong my oil pan will be glass beaded and left natural. I'll paint the inside with Gloptal, which you can get from the Eastwood Catalog. Bob TC4946

Uh-Oh... Watch the chemical coatings, when they fail they will certainly clog an oilway and take the engine with them. I watched a fellow racer do just that in a pro-rally. Regards Mark TC8126
