Chassis Rivets - Source

Post by Monoxidemanor@aol.com » Fri Apr 06, 2001 6:45 pm

Dear Kimberites: Our search for replacement chassis rivets led us to Moss England. Carl says he has them in stock and can supply our TABC needs. We will be ordering ours and then off to the local rivet company to get them installed or acquire the tools to do it ourselves. By the way, we received a number of replies to our questions and quest for chassis cross member fasteners. Most of them stated that they replaced missing or worn out rivets with bolts and nuts. Something tells us that the rivets were a part of the original design for a reason. One of the reasons given to us was that rivets, if heated and driven in, fill the hole thus eliminating a gap. It seems to us that if bolts are used there will be a gap between the bolt and chassis, unless tapered hand lapped bolts are fitted to each hole as some manufacturers did, which can cause problems down stream as the chassis flexes. Any thoughts or experiences? Also, any advice on fitting rivets or someone in the Southern California area who can since we have never done this before? Kindest regards, Alan & Victoria Campbell
