Front Wing Braces and Bonnet Latches

Post by Mark Stolzenburg » Sun Mar 18, 2001 5:20 am

Got more questions for the experts on the list. 1. Front wing braces are obviously sided because they have a bend in them that makes the upper portion of the brace protrude. Does the protruding portion go to the front of the car or to the back of the car? Your answer determines which is the right side brace and which is the left side brace. 2. This probably sounds like a dumb question and I'm sure Badger could have some fun with this one but -On page 205 of Mike Sherrell's book he describes the "AMAL" BONNET LATCHING MECHANISMS. He states "the left side handle rotates clockwise over the top to lock with the handle pointing rearward. He also goes on to state the right side rotates counter (anti) clockwise over the top. What has got me confused is his statement "over the top". I think he means the internal mechanism locks by going over the top, not that the outside handle goes over the top. When I am looking at the outside of my bonnet, the handles rotate down to latch and unlatch, not over the top. I'm I correct in my interpretation? When viewed from the outside the handles rotate down - Correct? Thanks, Mark Stolzenburg With a basket case 49 TC that had the wing braces and bonnet latches in a box (several boxes)

If you play with the Amals a while it will become obvious which goes on which side. Terry

Mark, In answer to part 2 of your question, the description is correct. The handle points forward when the latch is in the position to open the bonnet side. When you close it, the handle rotates "over the top" (counterclockwise on the right hand side, clockwise on the left hand side). Gene

Mark. The fender braces kick forward. The hood handles open and close by rotating them between 9 and 3 oclock (over the top) Mike Goodman
