Temperature Gauge MG-TC #6744
Dear MG -T Lords and Ladies; I am about to move out of driving around
the block and have some concern about knowing the engine temperature.
The heat can become quite intense here in the Kingdom of
Chad. The average speed on our local roads is about 40-45 MPH. Is the
Radiator Cap Temperature Gauge a good idea or are their more viable options.
-Would appreciate opinions about options and would like to keep the dash
panel original. Tally Ho! Thom Collins

Thom,
We midwesterners also face climatic challenges. The Motometer in the
radiator cap is the way to go. Doesn't do any damage to the car. Is
easy to install.(I think that Moss or Abingdon sell a radiator cap
alreadly drilled for the gauge.) And it reliable. The only drawback I
can think of is that Floridians may need special trifocals with the
middle ground to see the red line in the gauge in the radiator cap.

If I were you, I replace your oil pressure gauge with a latter dual oil

Agreed! I have a dual guage installed and enjoy not having to squint over
the hood to try and see if I am about to brew tea!

Personally, although I do not have a temp guage fitted to my "TC-hariot", I favour the variety that fits into the block rather than one that operates off the temp of the water. My reasoning is that if the water leaks or boils away, the temp guage will read the surrounding air temp and will drop, thus leaving the driver perhaps blissfully unaware of the potential diasater that lies ahead. One situated in the block, however, will tell it as it is! Joe Gates TC 8675

i supply a dual gauge-oil and water to replace the original oil gauge. The
face matches the other gauges. The original dash is not modifed at all.
These gauges are easer to read and more acurate than the radiator cap mounted
gauges. The price on these gauges inc brkt. and radiator fitting is $225.00
plus shipping. Mike Goodman

FWIW, my TC bought in 1974 in Birmingham, England has both a perfectly
matched Jaeger water temperature gauge and an oil temperature gauge
installed. They're wonderful

Dear Clan Gates; We are investigating tapping into the Top rear cover plate
with a thermocouple. The Temp gauge will be a" levered swing down unit"
behind the dash panel to be used while driving. It will not be visible after
parking. Tapping into the radiator header tank has much the same effect as
using a Boyce radiator cap. I personally like the classic look of the Boyce
unit, but there is no accurate temp measurement of the true engine temp. It is
a little too chancey for me. With the price of these XPAG engines we must use
stringent protection. It is just an experimental concept and I will let you
know. Becauseof our antiquated familiarity, the swing down gauge will be F
Degrees not C Degrees . Wish us luck. Tally Ho! Thom Collins
