Re: TC exu bumpers
In the days after new TCs were still fresh in people's minds, but before
they became popular among collectors in the late 1970's, a lot of EXUs
were "restored" back to what was often thought to be original
configuration - meaning the more familiar bumperless (etc) configuration.
True, sort of. I restored my EXU TC in 1970 using 7 3/4" lights as I thought
they looked better. I installed the bumpers but hated that licence plate
holding arrangement ( more suitable for towing a trailer ) and used two D
lights in the normal location.
Now that I am re-restoring the car, I will use the high tank tail lights and
7" headlights and everything else EXU except that trailer towing package
will remain in the drawer.

TC exu bumpers
Wow, what a hare I set running with my request for info.on bumpers as fitted to exu models (evidently only for the USA market) ! I guess that we have all learnt something. I still have the impression that to have a TC with a front bumper would be like fitting a fitting a false mustache to its elegant face.
Thanks to all of you who responded. I will reply to you soon.
Glad to see that Tabc'ers have a sense of humour. As a matter of interest Chip Old is correct in writing that long ago in the mists of time, here in the UK, many American publications referred to our bumpers as fenders.
I'm sure glad I joined the group. Thanks again , George

Just to clarify, since a couple of folks here seem to be referring to all export TCs at "EXU": The TC/EXU was intended for export to the United States only, starting in late 1948. Obviously many other TCs were exported, and depending on the intended destination market there were usually minor equipment differences from the Home Model. However the EXU is the only type to actually have something designating an export model (the "EXU") added to the car number on the maker's plate. If the car number doesn't include "EXU", it may be an export model but it isn't an EXU. -- Chip Old 1948 M.G. For what it's worth...I once owned a 1951 TD, RHD that was an EXR. I
believe that designation was for "Export- Right Hand Drive".

TC EXU Bumpers
Hi all,
Some time ago I sent a message to the group asking if anybody out there had a set of original TC EXU bumpers for sale . Whilst it resulted in a lot of interesting mail , I am still searching . Our TC EXU will (hope) be on the road later this year after a complete rebuild and I would like her to be properly dressed for the occasion.
For you doubters , the TC EXU which was made only for the USA really did have factory fitted bumpers. They were similar to the TD but not identical. They had an MG emblem fitted to the rear bumper and both front and rear had overiders.
Hope you can help,
George in the UK .........TC EXU 7548

TC EXU Bumpers
I've read in Mike Sherrell's book that the 1949 EXU TC's had bumpers
similar to the TD assembly. Can anyone point me to a photo of what
the front and rear bumpers on the EXU should look like? And is there
a source for either one? Thanks much.

John:
If you have a copy of Malcolm Green's book: MG T Series Restoration Guide,
there are photos of the TC EXU front and rear bumpers on page 16.

Re: TC EXU Bumpers
John,
The EXu bumpers are similar to the TD but no parts are interchangeable with
the EXU TC.
I have photos , front and back , of my EXU TC bumpers. I did not use the
licence plate holder on my EXU although I do have it. I used two "D" lights
with the plate between these D lights.
Regards, from Canada, Bob Grunau, TC-8654 EXU.
