I have fixed my bike, carb needed cleaning (I never did find the fuel air mixture screw, please, honestly tell me where it is). Also I am about to sell my KLR to trade it in for a 99 Africa Twin in mint condition. I have heard only good things about this bike. I know that it will not get me to where my KLR did, but I am planningo on getting a new KLR in early August... What do you think of ATs, anyone has had any experience with it? Juan, Came across a group of AT owners in Antigua few months ago. They were from Guat City and came up on week-end hauling girlfriends on back. Bikes looked great, so did girls, and riders liked their bikes.---PHW

I saw the Africa Twin in NYC. I fell in love with it. I am trying to pick up a used KLR to replace my blown up one for the summer. After I do my Shefferville ride I may go trade it in on one. That said I want something I know how to fix while I am in never never land

Some of you may be aware that my beloved 08 KLR650, a.k.a. The Tardis, suffered a cascading catestrophic engine failure last Nov at the Pine Barrens 500. It was the end of the first day and we had been out about 9 hours when it suddenly made funny noises and stalled. I restarted it with some help and headed towards the hotel when the engine made very bad sounds all at once, and ran no more.  It had been burning oil faster and faster and was planned for a 685 kit over the winter, alas I was too late. It cooked off the oil and after a long afternoon in the woops. It turns out you can only play motocross for so long on a KLR. The exhaust cam siezed then liberated up through the bearing block forcing the chain side valve down. The piston, blisfully un aware of the valve train's fatal situation, drove up contacting the over extended valve, bending the valve over and shoving the cam the rest of the way up. You can figure out the rest. While I may move on to an old man bike in the future, I like the Africa Twin, but not as a first year model, I have decided I am a KLR guy. To that end I introduce my latest mount, My  2011 with Now I just have to get to Vegas to ride it back. I looked at a cut-away Africa Twin engine at the motorcycle show.    I noticed that the it uses screw-and-locknut valve adjustment, no shims.    That will make valve adjustments much easier.

Or 7.5K for the valve clearance check. That s what the 750 Honda 4 was. I believe it was the K model that was that way.
