36 liter givi top case

Post by sergiomalatesta » Thu Mar 12, 2015 7:38 am

I just sold my 2003 KLR and the kid who bought it was too proud to have a 36 Liter GIVI Top case Mounted on it. His Dad insisted I take a little off so I'm offering it here to recoup. $75 plus shipping from 33523. I has the base plate, the adaptor for the KLR luggage rack, the bolts and even a backrest. Nice shape and still has both keys. Will hold a full face helmet and more tools than you can lift. These folks used to offer them but they still have photos on their site: http://www.rlmotorcycles.com/Givi-E36-p/givi%20e36nj.htm Michael

frozen rear axle -how to remove?

John, the bolt is located inside the (inner) bearing sleeve so the bearing seals should prevent any materials resulting from entering the bearings just as they should prevent external contaminants. The cavity within the sleeve is largely closed due to the sleeve being clamped at the ends so the two cavities (bearing versus inner sleeve bolt area) are separated. I don't see that corrosion in the bolt area being likely to affect the bearings. I also question removing the bearings in order to clean as the strain on the bearing risks distortion and there would appear (IME) to be no advantage to having the bearing separated from the structure for the purpose of cleaning. Removing and installing of bearings is often the cause of bearing failure, IME.
