I recently purchased an Elephant e230 case to use as a top case on my KLR.   http://www.elephantcases.com/e230.html   Rather than bolt the case directly to the luggage rack, I wanted a rdetachable mount. I looked at quick release boat seat mounts into which boat seat swivel mounts slide and snap into. The idea was that I could bolt a 7" plate to the bottom of my case with spaces that would be the same size as the swivel mount plates.  I also looked at several quick release trolling motor mounts. (Notice the nautical theme here?) Some of the trolling motor mounts are quite expensive, but I found some discontinued models on Amazon for reasonable prices.   I settled on the following TV wall mounts also found on Amazon. I was able to purchase three sets for less than $40 which got me free shipping. These normally mount to a wall with the other half of the wedge shaped bracket attaching to the VESA mount on the back of a flat panel TV.   http://www.amazon.com/VideoSecu-Bracket-Monitor-200x100mm-ML206B/dp/B001SDBVCE/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1416168444&sr=8-8&keywords=200mm+tv+wall+mount   Now to attach the mounts to my luggage rack. The mount is a little smaller than the luggage rack, so I was unable to use the existing screws.   I had the good fortune of running into an old acquaintance in the Lowes hardware section yesterday.  He looked over my KLR luggage rack and what I was trying to do. He invited me to his garage shop where he has a metal lathe, vertical mill, metal band saw, etc. In short order, we fashioned a steel plate that is offset below the bottom mounting plate by about half an inch with custom made aluminum spacers. That plate slips down through the former toolkit hole in the luggage rack and then slides forward under the front edge of the luggage rack to snuggly hold the front of the mounting plate down against the luggage rack. The back of the mounting plate then is bolted to the back edge of the luggage rack with a custom fit aluminum plate across the bottom that is flush with the back of the luggage rack.   I bolted the top half of the mounting bracket to the bottom of the Elephant case. with fender washers inside. I only used existing holes in both mounting brackets which are ambidetrous, so I can turn the brackets 180 degrees around if desired later. For now, I have the case handle facing backwards and have the wide/open end of the wedge shaped mount facing forward toward the seat. The case would have to move forward toward my back to become loose from the bottom half of the bracket. The top mount half can be secured to the bottom piece at the bottom/back of the wedge with four screws through the existing tapped tabs on the mount. I will probably use a thumscrew or two, or security screws depending on where I am going and what I am doing.   The only actual modfication to the luggage rack was the two 1/4" holes drilled in the trailing edge of the luggage rack deck.   I did note that when I tighten a couple of screws into the mount to secure it, the front is still a bit loose, so I need to tighten up the grooves, add some closed cell foam padding between the to mounts, or otherwise tighten up the mount. I may also attach a safety cable until I am confident in the setup.   Later, if and when I get the more laptop/briefcase suitable e220 case, I can simply bolt one of my other brackets directly to it and it will be ready to mount.   I also noticed there are similar smaller brackets for smaller TVs that might be useful to hang tools and things in the garage. Snow and sub-freezing her in central Oklahoma. If anyone is interested I can provide updates to how it works out for me.   Paul

NICE! But, I would have to find another way to attach it. I have mine Pelican mounted just behind the KLR's tool kit, MOSTLY for more seat room when I have the Camping gear loaded, so I am not riding the tank, OUCH! I looked at quick release boat seat mounts into which boat seat swivel mounts slide and snap into. The idea was that I could bolt a 7" plate to the bottom of my case with spaces that would be the same size as the swivel mount plates.  I also looked at several quick release trolling motor mounts. (Notice the nautical theme here?) Some of the trolling motor mounts are quite expensive, but I found some discontinued models on Amazon for reasonable prices.   I settled on the following TV wall mounts also found on Amazon. I was able to purchase three sets for less than $40 which got me free shipping. The mount is a little smaller than the luggage rack, so I was unable to use the existing screws. I had the good fortune of running into an old acquaintance in the Lowes hardware section yesterday.  He looked over my KLR luggage rack and what I was trying to do. He invited me to his garage shop where he has a metal lathe, vertical mill, metal band saw, etc. In short order, we fashioned a steel plate that is offset below the bottom mounting plate by about half an inch with custom made aluminum spacers. That plate slips down through the former toolkit hole in the luggage rack and then slides forward under the front edge of the luggage rack to snuggly hold the front of the mounting plate down against the luggage rack. The back of the mounting plate then is bolted to the back edge of the luggage rack with a custom fit aluminum plate across the bottom that is flush with the back of the luggage rack. I bolted the top half of the mounting bracket to the bottom of the Elephant case. with fender washers inside. I only used existing holes in both mounting brackets which are ambidetrous, so I can turn the brackets 180 degrees around if desired later. For now, I have the case handle facing backwards and have the wide/open end of the wedge shaped mount facing forward toward the seat. The case would have to move forward toward my back to become loose from the bottom half of the bracket. The top mount half can be secured to the bottom piece at the bottom/back of the wedge with four screws through the existing tapped tabs on the mount. I will probably use a thumscrew or two, or security screws depending on where I am going and what I am doing.  The only actual modfication to the luggage rack was the two 1/4" holes drilled in the trailing edge of the luggage rack deck. I did note that when I tighten a couple of screws into the mount to secure it, the front is still a bit loose, so I need to tighten up the grooves, add some closed cell foam padding between the to mounts, or otherwise tighten up the mount. I may also attach a safety cable until I am confident in the setup. Later, if and when I get the more laptop/briefcase suitable e220 case, I can simply bolt one of my other brackets directly to it and it will be ready to mount.  I also noticed there are similar smaller brackets for smaller TVs that might be useful to hang tools and things in the garage. Snow and sub-freezing her in central Oklahoma. If anyone is interested I can provide updates to how it works out for me. Paul

Hey you pass close to my place off 50th and rockwell about a mile north of snu. Got a ddaughter attending OKCCC. My one klr has a flat base which the cortech bag fits nicely on but i would like to get a hard bag for trips. Bought that klr fully farkled to many to list really. But it needs a barrel gastet and a good goi.g over to get on the road again.  The other is mostly stock
