[Robert Waters]

My 07 KLR 650 runs great on the road but it dies when turning left at slow speed and idle. I thinking it almost has to be the cable because it pulls on it when turning left. Anyone have this experience? IF this is the problem perhaps a reroute of the cable would fix it, or maybe a longer one, if there is such a beast.

Longer cable? It's an 07, that means it was fine all these years, until something changed. Slow speed. If a cable, then speed should not matter. Sitting still, (in drive etc.) Try turning the bars back & forth while running to get it to stall, and see at what point (angle) and watch the cables. I would also check the wiring harness behind the cluster...I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago and found out that turning the bars was pulling the pins out of the plugs.....I rerouted, checked  and cleaned each one and shot a bit of dielectric grease into it and haven't has a problem since.... The problem began when I had some work done on two bikes--changing around of handle bars was one.  I'm thinking rerouting of the throttle will fix the problem. I'm pretty sure it is the throttle cable.  I cut the windshield some and bent a bracket a bit and the problem is better.  Clearly it is when the throttle cable is getting tightened that it dies.
