Wow... it's been a couple years since I logged on to the group site, and even more (Summer of 2004) since I've had my KLR.  Seeings as this is the last day of 2013 I am feeling nostalgic and thought I'd drop in to say hello.  Some of the "old" timers may remember me :) I have to say that I miss my old KLR and the fellowship of this list.  It seemed like back on those days we all knew each other, and I guess after the first group Moab ride that I went to ('98 or '99), many of us kinda did.  That was the longest trip I made on my KLR, from the west coast of BC to Moab, Utah.  I remember needing a pannier rack for my bike, and not finding anything local that I liked, went ahead and designed my own... hence the MAC-D rack was born.  Any of them still around?  I made at least 100 of them for other people before Tim used the design for his Northwest Rack.  Good times. I just looked at the membership list.  Unreal.  Over 8,000 members!  I remember porting our list over to Yahoo from the old school bulletin board that Kurt started back in April 2000, where it grew from under 1,000 to over 2,000 in the time that I was listmeister.  What surprised me more though was not the number of members, but the fact that we were dialoguing so much more with many fewer people.  The monthly posts rang in around 2000+ posts a month, with around 2000 members, and nowadays the posts are a few hundred a month with 8000 members.  I guess people have run out of things to talk about? :) Anyone else notice that the banner photo is a mountain bike? Anywho... just wanted to pop in and say hello and Happy New Years! Cheers! Arne Larsen

Hey Arne!  yep, some of us old timers are still around.  There have been some things that never seem to change and other things that never cease to amaze me.  Since taking over the reigns here almost ten years ago, there have been ups and downs and lots of good free KLR information for everyone.  (message #122784)   The traffic on the Yahoo KLR list has slowed down for lots of reasons, the age of the KLR might have something to do with that but I m sure with all the other forums now available there is more competition for our time.  Since the KLR Yahoo list was the first and only KLR mailing group for lots of years, we didn t have much competition back in the day.   There are still a few of us original listers here and it is always good to hear from those that helped form our history here.   Arne, I d like to hear your story again about the missing motorcycle you helped find.  I believe it was a Honda Africa Twin that belonged to a Swiss couple that stopped into my shop while on a round the world trip.  This story really brought home to me how we all live in such a small world.   The reason you see the generic mountain bike photo on your homepage is because you have not signed into the site yet.  You will see a Join Group button on that page that you need to click on and fill in your username and password to take you to the real homepage.  (Rev U listening?)   Nice to hear from you again Arne.  Grog says Hey too.   Fred http://www.arrowheadmotorsports.com   From: mynameisarne@... I don t usually use the web page interface and it has been a while since I was there.  Yesterday was the first day I had seen the mystery mountain biker homepage.  It looked like some of the features were there but not all of them.  I also noticed a blue button on the lower part of the right side of the page that said Join Group.  I clicked on that and then it asked for my username and password.  Then I was taken to the original homepage with the KLRs out on the White Rim.  All is good for me at least.  I believe Yahoo is asking us to sign in to our accounts from time to time.  Sorry you are having such a time with Yahoo.  Sorry I don t make up the rules, I just report them. Same here. I even logged out of Yahoo, went to the group page and then saw the "join group" button. Clicked on it and it asked for me to log in which I did. The only thing that changed for me was that the "join group" button vanished but still have the Mt bike picture. Oh by the way....Happy New year to everyone! I've come back also but combination of liking the interactions and having a "couldn't pass up the deal" KLR. The strange part is that I'm enjoying the strange old dinosaur more than much better bikes in which I lost interest....strange. Maybe you should borrow one for a week to see if the old love can be rekindled?   Where are you on the Wet Coast?   The pie at the Chilliwack airport is good so if you require a guide to find the place, let me know. ;)   Norm

I'm another of those hanging on the sideline but enjoy reading and keeping up with the group.  Still have my 02 which is ready to roll and set-up for desert duty.  Spent the past couple years doing lots of shooting in the NV outback where I'd found some great places to go via the KLR.  It's time to put the guns away and get back on the bike this spring.

Heck In Michigan I make it a QUAD+ Sport, I always have at least 1 pistol, when not crossing country and at times take my Fly Rod and camping gear...on the KLR.

I ride my KLR to the trap shooting field, so no problem with guns on bikes! Robert Wichert P.Eng. LEED AP BD&C +1 916 966 9060 FAX +1 916 966 9068 ===============================================
