You probably did not lose your stuff (yet). See if your computer will
boot to Safe Mode:
Start the computer, and while the laptop is starting, tap the F8 key
about once per second until the text menu comes up which gives you
several start up options. Choose "Safe Mode" or "Safe Mode with
Networking". If the computer starts and you can click on things with the
track pad or mouse, there is merely a problem with your Windows
installation.
Report back with the following information:
-- Did it boot in safe mode?
-- What version of Windows do you have? (XP, 7, Vista, etc)
-- Are you using the laptop's track pad or do you have a separate mouse
connected?
(if you don't have a separate mouse, buy or borrow one and try it)
