white gas
Another idea for long term gas storage issues was given to me by a cycle dealer in the area. He does not use any additives, but mixes aviation gasoline at a 50% ratio with non-oxygenated gas. As a former pilot I was not surprised when he told me that federal regulations specify that gas intended for aviation use be able to be stored for up to five years.
The trouble with this is that there are no highway taxes been paid on av gas, so highway use is not legal - if you can find someone to sell it to you. I will probably try to find some to use in my boat, lawn mowers and other power equipment which is all stored over the long winters here in northern Minnesota.

chain longevity
Just turned over 51,000 miles on the KLR650. I'm reasonably sure I've only purchased one set of chain and sprockets for this bike so that means that I've put 26,000 miles on this set! No wonder it's getting a little stiff and kinky. The sprockets look like new. Less than 200 miles done on dirt and nothing much besides WD-40 used on the chain. I suppose I won't be a cheapskate & will go ahead and buy new sprockets to go with the new chain.
