white gas

TotalHealth  Put-Away-But-Not-Divorced I have a friend that used to own a service station.  The gasoline company was "American."  The premium gasoline they sold was "white gas."  It was lead free.  Nothing else was. We used it in everything.  It was known as the best gas available. Don't know if they are still in business.  I did find a pic of an old sign.   Arkansas, U.S.       From: "DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com" DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com> To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Sent: Friday, November 8, 2013 4:08 AM Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Digest Number 12678 DualSportNews' KLR650 Discussion List Group 4 New Messages Digest #12678 1a Re: Gas storage idea? It's particularly good at dissolving rubber fuel lines and the little o-rings that seal stuff up inside your carb. -Jeff Khoury

(NONKLR-kinda) Mark, Not splitting hairs-- but suggesting adding 1/2pt of white gas (if it is even a good idea) needs to be tempered with a ratio = 1/2 pt to #gals of gas. Mixing your metaphors of gas generators and KLR's leaves the gentle reader wondering why/if you picked 1/2 pt for all applications. m. Posted by: walk9940@...?subject=Re%3A%20Gas%20storage%20idea%3F%20%28NONKLR-kinda%29 What you are suggesting is actually a practice used back in the day for lawn mowers in the winter and snow blowers in the summer. You would drain most of the gas out and put in some Coleman fuel. Then run the engine until you are sure that the mixture is in the carburetor and put it away. When time to get it out, you simply add gas and use the equipment. There is no rocket science here, just adding a fuel with almost indefinite storage properties. You would not want to run an engine on straight white gas, but a mix is not going to hurt anything. I am glad you brought this up. I had forgotten it. Startron works ok for me most of the time if I only let a bike sit for a month. I used it in my DRZ after the Trans America Trail, where the bike sat for a year. The carb had green fuzz growing inside of it when I took it apart.. The fuel ate through the petcock seals, and leaked into the carb. I figure that microbial growth fed off of the ethanol and made the mess. $150 in parts later, I had the bike running. I think I will put my bikes in storage with Coleman fuel and see what happens. Posted by: edgyver40@...?subject=Re%3A%20Gas%20storage%20idea%2E On sale, this stuff should run about $10-12 total. 1.) It's expensive. 2.) It's REALLY expensive. 3.) Carb rebuilds are more than #1 & #2 combined several times. What for? Two cans of Tru-Fuel 50:1 small power equipment premix. If I were storing a bike for the winter, I would run all the fuel out of the tank and the bike until it stopped. Then, I'd pour in the Tru-fuel. Next, I'd crank and run the bike for at least 5 minutes to make sure it's fully distributed in the fuel system. The synthetic oil in the gas won't hurt a thing and might even prevent corrosion on valve stems, etc... The fuel itself is high octane and contains zero alcohol. It's also got a shelf life once opened of way longer than any winter your bike will see. I had some in a Homelite saw that got shelved after I bought a Stihl Farm Boss. 4 months later, I needed to cut a slightly rotten pecan limb for a neighbor and didn't want to break out the big saw. I primed the Homelite, pulled it through a few times and it fired right up and ran normally. Tru Fuel can be bought in 40:1 and 50:1 mixes at auto parts stores, hardware stores, Lowe's Home Depot and Walmart. My $0.02 worth. eddie edgyver40@...?subject=Re%3A%20Gas%20storage%20idea%2E.
