vendor poll

Post by Randall Marbach » Mon Sep 30, 2013 5:57 pm

IIRC, klr650.com and klr650.net are two completely different forums.   I believe Eagle Mike is a vendor on klr650.net From: RobertWichert To: Stephen Watson Cc: Stu Mitchell ; "DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com" DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Monday, September 30, 2013 6:42 AM Subject: Re: [DSN_KLR650] Vendor Poll I think that Eagle Mike says KLR650.com is not selling authentic Eagle Mike gear.  I'm just reporting what I heard. You can't go wrong with Fred Hink - Arrowhead Motorsports. If he doesn't have it, Cycle Gear is a good physical store around here. Aerostich is good for crash suits. I personally recommend Johnson Leather in San Francisco if you use leather gear. Robert Wichert P.Eng. LEED AP BD&C +1 916 966 9060 FAX +1 916 966 9068 ===============================================

klr won't run.

A friend bought an '09 on eBay and is having problems with it. This is the latest. Any suggestions?
Installed the carb I purchased with only 1700 miles on it, made absolutely no difference, still will not idle. Starts up right away, OK for a little while then wants to die. It starts right up again each time, then again dies. No exhaust smoke, no backfire. I am pretty sure now it's not the carb, because this new one does the same thing.
I don't like to give up, but I have no choice, I don't know what else to do, except have Power pick it up and then probably get screwed out of a ton of money. They are telling me a bad valve will upset the idle, or a bad ring, maybe the valve, but a ring !!!
Don't believe it's good to keep on running it static, if it's running rich which appears to be happening then all that gas is diluting the oil.

Valves: can't hurt to adjust the valves and does not cost much. The Left-side Intake could be a problem. Rings: 2008 and early 2009 could have ring problems but the chances are a lot less than other possible problems. Vacuum Leak: check for vacuum leaks. make sure the carburetor boots are installed correctly. use water to find a vacuum leak. a spray bottle works well. water fills and blocks the vacuum leak. Carburetor: set the carburetor to factory specs. make sure the float pivot pin is installed properly.make sure the vent tube(s) are not crimped. Choke: make sure the choke is adjusted correctly. too loose is better than too tight.

The choke (enrichener) cable could be too tight, as was said. That would make both carbs run rich after startup and a bit of warm up. Or it could be "bad". Maybe try disconnecting it and looking to see if it moves in an out. Robert Wichert P.Eng. LEED AP BD&C +1 916 966 9060 FAX +1 916 966 9068 ===============================================
