lights no work

Post by jcopel538 » Mon Sep 09, 2013 10:37 pm

Lights are fixed. It was the low beam burnt out. The brake and tail light was a broken and another frayed wire near the plugs about 6 inches from the tail light. Thanks Jeff your knowledge of the bike and where to start made it easy. It was also good reason to buy that new digital multimeter. While fixing that I found a broken sub frame and crack on the other side. It is just behind the bolts that hold the tail rack and rear panier mount. I carry too much in the tail bag and have it mounted too far back. It only supports tail rack, fender, and tail light. Any thoughts about welding it? Could any good machine shop weld it? Just steel? Should it be removed or could it be welded on the bike? Special precautions to keep from frying the electrical? Thanks in advance. jerry

Replace the fuses with new.  Sometimes you can't tell if they are bad unless you meter them, and even then sometimes they can be intermittent under load (not common). Check power to sockets and contacts.  Might be the main switch.  Disassemble to check. Robert Wichert P.Eng. I have a 05 KLR with some light issues that I could use some help with.  The only lights that are working on it are high beam, dash lights, and license plate light. No low beam, tail light, or brake light.  Fuses under the seat are good swapped them around and tested them in both sides. Bike runs great. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.
