EZ OIL CHECKR Facts and Features You know how you told yourself you'd check your oil every gas fill-up but never seem to get around to it? Well now there's no excuse. This product allows you to check oil while astride your bike so no more worrying if your bike is perpendicular to the ground when you check oil while on your knees. No more hassles to get bike exactly upright and no dropping bike while you try to balance it with one hand and look in the oil window while on your knees. Don't worry about buying this if you are too short to safely straddle your bike and look down, just stand beside your bike instead and you can still see the mirror without getting on your knees. Infinitely adjustable to suit ALL riders. Can be bent up or down to suit short or narrow torsos. Can be angled left or right to suit how far forward or rearward you sit. Won't interfere with brake pedal or big feet. Installs in less than a minute, (timed myself at 33 sec on and off while filming which I'm sure someone can beat) only requires removing one right side case bolt, putting oil checker on the bolt and reinstalling bolt into case. If you're worried that serious offroading may break it, remove it for the day. People who know me know I'm no single tracker but my EZ Oil Checkr has been on for nearly 3 years and gone up Saddleback Mountain, on part of the CDR and to Death Valley Daze without problem. If you're on an extended trip, remove it and put it in your pocket or luggage for the really rough areas. As for removing the bolt regularly, I've had this bolt in and out a zillion times while creating this product and there still isn't a drop of an oil leak at that location. Checker itself is made of non-rusting aluminum that is very pliable so will bend to suit without breaking. Entertaining - when engine is idling at a traffic light you can look down to see oil percolating in the window. Can fill final part of an oil change while astride the bike to get just the right amount in. Made in the USA by me. Fits all KLRs both generations. Tools and materials required A vise or pair of pliers to bend the Checkr 8mm socket head and socket wrench to remove and reinstall bolt Installation First, since these are handmade by me there maybe a sharp edge I missed so use CAUTION when handling. Second, put EZ Oil Checkr in vise or pliers and bend with your hand to a 90 degree bend to start. After it's installed you can easily bend to suit with nothing more than a single finger. Third, loosen bolt, attach Checkr and retighten bolt torquing to 69 in/lb. (As you tighten be careful the Checkr doesn't turn to the right taking the mirror out of view. You can put a screwdriver up against it to hold it firm while tightening), bend Checkr up to suit. Finally, sit on bike and hold it perpendicular to the ground. Lean slightly right and look down. If you can see the oil window in the mirror then you bent it to the correct angle for you. If not, bend EZ Oil Checkr at the angle - a little down or a little up till the oil window appears in the mirror when you are looking down from the seat. Now that oil window is in the mirror, (rechecking that bike is perpendicular to the ground) look at the oil level. If you can see the line of the oil then you don't have enough oil in there (see this thread by Wyman Winn - http://www.klr650.net/forums/showthread.php?t=77985 ). If all you see is oil, good (unless you overfilled it) then tip bike slightly to left and watching mirror you should see the oil start to drop in the window as you lower it on to the kickstand. Maintenance While the oil checker should last the life of your bike, an unlucky meeting with a rock is about the only way it won't. Then it should only mean rebending it to the right angle again. Other than checking for damage, the only thing that needs to be done (occasionally for street riders and maybe daily for off-roaders) is clean the mirror. Price $9.99 includes shipping Send payment to paypal - (kurereyo at cox dot net). Replacement mirrors with tape are available for $3 (includes shipping).
