petcock diaphragm failure

Post by John Biccum » Tue Jul 09, 2013 1:15 pm

When my KLR diaphragm failed I initially replaced the diaphragm with the Kawasaki OEM part. But that new part had a pinhole leak in it and I ended up replacing the entire petcock with a spendy Pingel petcock. I was leaving on along trip and didn't want to brisk a second defective OEM part. If I had the issue today the retrofit kit from our list member Jeff Saline is what I'd use rather than replacing the entire petcock. -----Original Message----- From: "Ian Francisco" Sent: 7/ 9/ 2013 12:08 To: "DSN KLR650" DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com>; "RobertWichert" Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Petcock diaphragm failure I used to own a Suzuki VX800. It was a well-known problem for the petcock to fail which eventually led to float valve failure on the rear carb which could then fill the rear cylinder with gas causing hydro-lock which could result in a bent con rod. Not good. Most of us just bought a new petcock rather than fool around with diaphragm kits. I had two aftermarket kits fail on my GS450 before biting the bullet and getting a new OE part. -- Ian Francisco http://www.scarletfuries.com http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Scarlet-Furies/121218125931 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] [The entire original message is not included.] [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
