adjustable levers

Post by Tim Pruitt » Thu Jan 31, 2013 3:25 pm

I'm pretty sure this has been kicked a bout on the list before, but I wanted to kick it again - ok, ok I forgot what was saaid or who said it. Has anyone changed out there KLR clutch and brake lever for an adjustable set? I seem to remember someone oncesaid that Versys adjustable levers would fit. Anyone know if that's true? I've also looked at various adjustable, foldable, shot length, long length, and multicolored aftermarket levers but I've not found any that say they will fit the KLR for sure. I'm about to start measureing and figuring out what all the demensions are to see if I can find a match. But It'd sure be a lot quicker if someone aalreaady knows the answer. How about it guys? adjustable levers

I don't know about the KLR specifically......but I use adjustable-pull levers on all my dirt bikes. I use the MSR Pro Raptor sets for the clutch. The cable has adjustable spots on the handle which allow you to increase or decrease the amount or lever pull. I like light clutches, so I make mine with less pull. They're about $50 or so. extra lights for the klr

I purchased some inexpensive LED side "clearance" or marker lights and mounted them facing sideways near the license plate. They are bright as all get out from the side and can be seen from the rear even 90 degrees off axis. I also put on a small array that aims five individual leds splayed out across about 120 degrees. I glued that to the tailight lense and wired it into the brake light to create a "third brake light" effect. I don't have good pics of the rear setup. I also purchased the same lights in amber and mounted them directly to the existing front turn signal lenses using E6000 glue which has held on and off road for five years now. Bad pics here: https://picasaweb.google.com/116400403409443624294/PentaxDec0702#5536492777503601602 https://picasaweb.google.com/116400403409443624294/PentaxDec0702#5536504737159977666 https://picasaweb.google.com/116400403409443624294/PentaxDec0702#5536504752548373282 The observant viewer might notice I mounted them assymetrically. Couldn't decide on the high or low position to get the best results when signalling so tried both. Since the glue held so well I left it as is. I unplugged the headlight for the first picture. For about $2.50 each this was a worthwhile add-on. This is a lot easier than converting the existing blinkers to three-wire blinkers which entails replacing the socket with an 1157 socket. These have four small leds per module. The current draw is nearly nil compared to an extra 5W or 7W draw per "parking light" filament in each 1157 bulb, or at least 20W for four of them. I think the turn signal filament is 25W. I have since purchased a high-vis helmet and Fieldsheer mil-spec vest which further enhances my "conspic-uity". With all the talk of guns and mental health I often wonder if I make an irresistible moving target for some sharpshooter when out on back roads. -- Ian Francisco http://www.scarletfuries.com http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Scarlet-Furies/121218125931 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
